Everyone had great time at IMB Seminar

The seminar was lots of fun for all.  10 Countries were represented there as well as several states.  This has been a long standing seminar for many years.  Richard Bustillio has had a great relationship with Gokor for quite a while and the two have great respect for one another.  Ken Harte was twisted into a pretzel many times as was usual.  "The seminar was filled with great technique."  said Ken to his students that evening.  Congratulations to all and great work.

Manvel on the right track to take WEC title.

Manny Gamburyan WINS in His WEC Debut

Manny Gamburyan, the former UFC fighter making his World Extreme Cagefighting debut, won what we know will be the first fight on his path to taking on the Faber-Brown winner down the road.  Gamburyan, fighting at 145 pounds after fighting at 155 pounds in all five of his UFC fights, beat John Franchi by unanimous decision (30-27 on all three judges' cards) in a fight that established him as a featherweight to watch.  "This is my new home, guys," Gamburyan said afterward, via Ariel Helwani at Versus. "I'm only going to get better. That's all I can say. I'm only going to get better. The last time I cut to 145 was exactly 10 years ago, so this wasn't easy for me, trust me ... 20 pounds for me was very hard."

Gamburyan, who also said after the fight that he may have suffered a broken hand in the first round (which was later confirmed to HyeFighters.com that there is no break), said that he expects to fight the Faber vs. Brown 2 winner some day.  "That's what I'm here for," Gamburyan said. "It's all about getting that belt around my waist. I think if I follow the right path, I can do it."  We are certain that with a few more times he'll get that chance, but Gamburyan took the first step Sunday night in Sacramento.

NY Team Hayastan Affiliate School Posts Another MMA Win!

On Saturday, May 9, 2009 Adam Tucker from Norman Yonkers' Karate Connection Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Fredonia, NY went to the cage for his first MMA Battle in Cuyahoga Falls, OH at X-Treme Fight Series' Project Mayhem.

Tucker had a dominate first two rounds with his Hayastan grappling skills being tested. His opponent Jim Sellar of Attica MMA had his hands full. Adam had a beautiful triangel submission at 1.37 in the 3rd round.

This was Adam's first MMA fight and the crowd enjoyed the non-stop action. Many of the fighters were blown away with Adam's many submission attempts. Head Coach Norman Yonkers said "Adam's cardio and excellent grappling skills earned him this victory!"

Adam would like to thank everyone at Norman Yonkers' Karate Connection MMA Academy. Also a big thank you to Paul Booe for his help. He would also like to thank Gokor for all of his knowledge and encouragement. One more thank you to his sponsors: Norman Yonkers' Karate Connection and Mr Hoodscoop.com.

Sevak And Karren Unstoppable!!

Sevak Magakian put on a tremendous show by submitting his BJJ Pan Am champion opponent in the first round.  After a flurry of strikes, throws and postion changes Sevak pulled off a slick kneebar.  His opponent refused to tap causing Sevak to break his opponents leg.  It wasn't until after the injury that the tap came.  Congrats on a great showing and excellent prep for this fight.

Karren Darabedyan took on the much decorated and muti-time kickboxing champion Joe Camacho.  Karren, known for his grappling prowless, put on a striking clinic against the veteran striker.  Camacho didn't make it out of the first round with Karren's relentless striking attack.  The fight ended due to ref stoppage giving Karren and Team Hayastan a perfect showing for the night.  Congrats to Karren for such a dominate showing.

Also winning was HyeFighter Georgi Karakhanyan.  Congratulations to Georgi for an exciting fight.  Thanks To HyeFighters.com for the Pics in this article.

Manvel To Fight In WEC June 7th!

Manvel "The Anvil" Makes his WEC Debut

The Ultimate Fighter® Season Five runner-up  Manvel Gamburyan (10-5) makes his WEC featherweight debut when he takes on unbeaten John Franchi (5-0). Known for his judo throws and effectiveness inside an opponent’s guard, Hollywood, California’s Gamburyan drops to 145-pounds and becomes an instant contender at featherweight. He hopes to make a great first impression against the 26-year-old Franchi. Training out of Cortland, NY, Franchi earned a hard-fought decision victory over Mike Budnik in his WEC debut in March. Riding the momentum of his first WEC win, Franchi plans to offer Gamburyan a rude welcome to the 145-pound class when the two collide on June 7th, but he needs to be more worried about the raw power of the Anvil.

Fighter From Gokor's Affiliate School in Charlotte NC Wins!

On Friday April 24, 2009 Bobby Sellers from Xtreme Karate & Mixed Martial Arts in Charlotte, NC went to battle in Mansfield, Mass. at Full Force Untamed 27 MMA show. After three rounds of a dominating performance Sellers took a unanimous decision and increased his record to 2-0. His opponent Darrin Oliver of CNYMMA came prepared and put up a good fight but was unable to handle Sellers constant pressure and superior striking. CNYMMA has produced several Ultimate Fighter and UFC competitors like Tamdan McCrory.  Taking the victory over one of the CNYMMA fighters is great boost for Sellers MMA career.

This was Bobby’s second fight for Full Force and the crowds were buzzing about this young and up and coming Team Hayastan Fighter.  Many of the other fighters commented on the quality of fighters coming out of the Team Hayastan camps. Once again another one of Gokor Chivichyan’s Hayastan affiliates proves that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Head Coach Paul Booe said ,“This was a good test for Bobby. Having an opponent from a known camp and taking it the distance and testing his stamina. Bobby has a big future ahead of him.”

Assistant Coach and fellow fighter Patrick Sweet stated, “Bobby came in prepared to go the distance with him and executed the game plan we set for him in the months of training and was prepared for whatever his opponent had to offer.

Bobby would like to thank his coaches, Paul Booe and Patrick Sweet. His sparring partners and all of the team in Charlotte who helped him prepare for this fight. He would also like to thank Sensei Gokor for his encouragement and assistance in his training.  He also thanks his sponsors: Cryogel, Nikki’s Tattoo Studio, Rockhill Fitness and Brawl Park Fightwear.
